Factory talk inspires Milton Blake’s new single ‘We Almost Lost it’

An everyday remark at a factory and a phone call from a friend gave reggae singer Milton Blake the inspiration for his latest single, We Almost Lost It.

Blake had heard one worker tell another, “We almost finished”, as he was preparing to leave the factory. The phrase caught his attention, and he wrote it down as a possible starting point for a song.

Later, while listening to a rhythm in the studio, he received a call from a friend who had reconciled with his girlfriend. Suddenly, the musical idea fell into place.

“When my friend mentioned making it back up with his girl, it clicked in my brain, and I started writing and laid down the track immediately,” Blake recalled.

Recorded on September 9 over a rhythm created by the Firehouse Crew, We Almost Lost It was released on September 17.

The song explores a relationship that survives a difficult period, with a message Blake hopes will resonate with listeners.

“I would like the listeners to know that some love is worth fighting for,” he said.

For Blake, the single also reflects his desire to bring more heartfelt, uplifting music to Jamaican audiences. He believes there is room for more songs about love and resilience alongside the themes currently dominating the music.

The romantic direction draws on his early experiences singing soul music on sound systems.

Blake described the response to the single as “overwhelming” and thanked radio presenters, sound system selectors, online DJs and listeners for their support.

He is also preparing to visit Jamaica to promote the song and perform live.

Meanwhile, the singer says he has a lovers rock album, Misguided Desire, ready for release in 2027, continuing the romantic themes explored in his latest single.
