Reggae Boyz book ticket to quarterfinals of Nations League

Jamaica’s Reggae Boyz have advanced to the quarterfinals of the Concacaf Nations League after a 1-1 draw with Honduras at Estadio Nacional Chelato Ucles in Tegucigalpa on Monday.

The draw saw Jamaica finish second in Group B of League A on seven points, the same as group winners Guatemala and third-placed Suriname, with goal-difference separating the teams.

The point was also good enough for Honduras to avoid relegation to League B.

Tyreece Campbell scored his first goal in Jamaica’s colours when he fired home in the 27th minute, curling a ball from the left side of the Honduran 18-yard box and off the inside of the far right upright.

Luis Palma equalised for the hosts with a goal of supreme quality, beating goalkeeper Andre Blake with a looping, curling shot from at least 30 yards out, the ball nestling in the far right corner.

Jamaica missed a number of other good scoring chances.

Javon East, the two-goal hero against El Salvador on Friday, had arguably the best opportunity to score with just the goalkeeper to beat on a breakaway late in the first half, but shot wide of the goal.
