Mr Platinum honours love, legacy

Recording artiste Mr Platinum is celebrating love and family legacy with his new reggae track, Buttercup 26, featuring Shanead Sims and Brawvo X.

Released as a single and album on September 26, 2026, the project pairs warm reggae melodies with a simple message while honouring the influence of his father, St Lucian cultural music icon Hubert “Breeze” Fevrier.

“If you hear the song and it makes you think about something or someone you truly love, then it did what it was supposed to do,” he said.

Born Thomas Fevrier, Mr Platinum grew up in a family deeply connected to Saint Lucian music and culture. His father, who founded and led Rebel Rockers, provided an early grounding in music, storytelling, and artistic discipline.

The consciousness and cultural pride expressed in the music of Bob Marley and Peter Tosh further shaped his affinity for reggae.

“My father taught me to find my own sound, find my own lane, and be the absolute best I can be while doing it. So, for me, continuing his legacy means taking what was given to me, making it my own, and passing it forward,” he said.

That legacy gives the number in Buttercup 26 a significance beyond its release year. Breeze’s birthday is June 26, making that particularly meaningful to father and son.

As his father’s health declined, Mr Platinum sought a lasting way to preserve his presence within the music.

“When you see Buttercup 26 I want that number to always carry a piece of Hubert ‘Breeze’ Fevrier with it. Yes, the record arrived in 2026, but 26 is bigger than the year; it’s his day, it’s his footprint, it’s part of the legacy,” he said.

Although the recording retains verses and elements from the original Buttercup, its purpose evolved during that difficult period. New voices and creative energy helped establish Buttercup 26 as a release with its own identity.

The collaborations bring together family ties and a musical connection forged in Houston. Brawvo X, Mr Platinum’s cousin and the son of former Saint Lucian Cultural Queen Phyllis Roma Wilson, shares his Saint Lucian roots while pursuing his own artistic path. Shanead Sims, who joined creative forces with Mr Platinum in Houston, adds her vocal artistry to the record’s shared expression of love.

The release has received early radio exposure in the Caribbean and United States, including airplay from DJ Supa Neil on KTSU 90.9 FM The Vibe in Houston. Media personality and DJ Coco Filipina also premièred it on The Culture on Hot 97.9 FM in the Carolinas.

The family’s creative continuity is also reflected in the TI KWA video, which introduces Breeze’s music to new audiences while depicting a symbolic passing of the torch to Mr Platinum. The production connects three generations, with Breeze at its centre, his son helping bring the visual to life, and his grandson Yondre of Louis Lane Creative contributing to its production.

With Buttercup 26, Mr Platinum carries that connection into his own musical chapter, inviting listeners to find their experiences within his story.

“Love for the music. Love for the people. Love for where I come from. Love for the journey. When you strip everything else away, that’s what remains. It’s love alone,” he said.
