Rymey Gad tackles Mix Up
DANCEHALL artiste Rymey Gad is addressing the controversy surrounding his name head-on with his new single, Mix Up, released on September 10.
Produced by Savman Records, in association with C.T.C, and distributed by ONErpm, Mix Up finds the artiste taking recent attention and turning it into music.
Rather than shying away from the conversation, Rymey Gad uses the high-energy track to give his side of the story, while making it clear that he is ready to move forward.
According to Rymey Gad, the inspiration came from the controversy and the negative attention it generated across media and social media.
At the centre of the song is his admission that he was never looking for love or a relationship, but simply trying to have a good time before unexpectedly finding himself caught in a public “mix up”.
“Me only did a try fi get mi thing up and now mi end up in a mix up,” he said in the clean version of one of the song’s standout lines.
The artiste also addresses assumptions surrounding his lifestyle and career, making it clear that music is not his only source of income.
While the subject matter comes from a serious and highly publicised situation, Rymey Gad deliberately chose to approach the record with energy rather than anger.
Describing Mix Up as a combination of dancehall, dancing, and rock-androll influences, he believes the upbeat production gives listeners something they can enjoy even while following the story behind the record.
“People love controversy and drama,” Rymey Gad says, explaining why he felt this was the right moment to release the song.
Interestingly, Mix Up came together quickly.
The song was created and recorded on August 21 before being officially released on September 10.
Details surrounding an accompanying music video are expected to be announced soon.
For Rymey Gad, the attention surrounding Mix Up arrives at what he considers a breakthrough period in his career.
He believes he is beginning to build a loyal fan base while positioning himself for greater recognition in Jamaica and internationally.
“I know I’m at a breakthrough point in my career where I can start getting the recognition I deserve, both locally and internationally,” he says.
“The difference now is that I’m capturing a loyal fan base that is willing to represent their artiste.” Beyond Mix Up, Rymey Gad is already preparing his next major project, an EP titled Dancehall Gad Fi Di New Skl, scheduled for release on October 31, 2026.
The project is expected to have separate male and female versions released on the same day, with different themes and visual identities.
He is also working on new collaborations with Tommy Lee Sparta, Ayetian and Rani Rastaciti, among others, as he continues expanding his catalogue.
Rymey Gad believes his versatility will play an important role in the next stage of his career.
Whether dancehall or another sound, he prides himself on being able to adapt to different genres and rhythms while still creating music that represents who he is.
“I want fans to understand that Rymey Gad is an artiste who can relate to any genre or rhythm given to him,” he said.
“I’m creating music that can surprise even me sometimes, and I want people to realize that history is being written right in front of them.” With overseas performances and a wider international presence among his next goals, Rymey Gad said Mix Up also represents a decision to close a chapter and refocus his attention on his career.
“This release means I’m willing to admit certain things, let some things go and move forward with my career,” he said.
