Scorpi Di Dan eyes dancehall breakthrough with new music, major collaborations

KINGSTON, Jamaica — Emerging dancehall artiste Scorpi Di Dan is looking to make his mark on Jamaica’s competitive music scene, drawing inspiration from personal struggles and everyday realities as he prepares to release new music and expand his presence in the industry.

The 31-year-old entertainer, whose given name is Ryann Barrington Graham, has recently begun working with established music producer Anju Blaxx and secured representation through Moii Entertainment booking agency, developments he hopes will help propel his career.

Describing himself as a voice for the voiceless, Scorpi Di Dan said his music is rooted in personal experiences, with an emphasis on storytelling, lyricism and relatable themes.

“My music is fueled by my present reality that I constantly live, the battles that I face mentally and physically,” he said.

“The aggression, the pain and passion, the struggles, the fight is all being expressed and I use my music to illustrate these elements,” he added.

His interest in music dates back to his childhood, when he developed a reputation for freestyling and entertaining classmates. However, it was during his third and fourth form years at Excelsior High School that he began seriously considering a career in dancehall.

Initially known for his freestyling and clash abilities, he said encouragement from teachers and fellow students helped convince him to pursue music professionally.

His latest career development has seen him establish a working relationship with producer Anju Blaxx, whose involvement in dancehall has helped shape the careers of several entertainers.

According to Scorpi Di Dan, the connection came through fellow artiste Kanvers, who introduced him to an audio engineer named Kai at Anju Blaxx’s Blackstate JA record label.

“The experience is beyond great and we have some projects working on that will be releasing soon,” he shared.

The entertainer also revealed that he is working on new material featuring a surprise collaboration with a mainstream artiste, although he has opted to keep the identity under wraps for now.

Meanwhile, his recent signing with Moii Entertainment booking agency has begun opening doors for live performances, with an appearance scheduled for December 12 in Portmore, St Catherine.

Despite the growing number of young entertainers seeking recognition in dancehall, Scorpi Di Dan believes his authenticity and approach to songwriting will help distinguish him from his peers.

“Honestly I just live my truth and sing my reality,” he said.

“I tend to touch on topics that majority can relate to but what I try to do is express it a bit different with my unique way of playing on lyricism and catchy flows.”

With new releases, collaborations and performances on the horizon, the aspiring dancehall star is hoping to build momentum while remaining committed to producing music that reflects the experiences of ordinary Jamaicans.
