Jamaica’s Kaheem Parris makes history for Sabah in Champions League
Jamaican winger Kaheem Parris made history for Azerbaijani champions Sabah on Tuesday as he scored the opening goal for the club in their first-ever Champions League win, a 2-0 victory over Slavia Prague.
Parris fired home the opener in the 49th-minute from the edge of the box after latching on to a cutback by Ivan Lepinjica. It was the club’s first-ever goal in European competition.
Joy-Lance Mickels clinched victory for the hosts late in comedic fashion, as his weak effort from distance should have been easily cleared by Slavia defender David Moses, but the Nigerian tripped and the ball found its way home.
The victory sees Sabah bouncing back from a heavy 4-0 defeat against Manchester United in their opening match.
Meanwhile, the defeat extends Slavia’s winless run in the Champions League to 21 matches.
