Cops kill man wanted for double murder, illegal firearm seized

KINGSTON, Jamaica—A man who was being sought in connection with a double murder on Balcombe Drive in Olympic Gardens, St Andrew, on Sunday, was shot dead by the police on Wednesday evening.

The dead man, identified as 31-year-old Shaquille Pellington, otherwise called ‘Biggs’, was killed during a police operation in the Wailers community on Penwood Lane in Olympic Gardens.

An illegal firearm was reportedly seized during an incident, the police disclosed.

Reports reaching Observer Online indicated that around 6:05 pm, a police team went to the community after receiving information that gunmen were seen there.

Upon arriving, the team split into different groups and went to different areas of the compound.

One of the groups, on reaching the rear of the premises, observed a board door swing open and saw a man dressed in underpants standing at the doorway with a firearm allegedly in his hand.

The cops reportedly called out to the gunman and identified themselves, but he reportedly pointed his weapon at them. In fear for his life, a member of the team discharged his weapon in the man’s direction.

The man fell clutching the firearm. It was retrieved and found to be a Taurus G3 semi-automatic pistol with a magazine containing four live rounds of ammunition.

The police transported Pellington to the Kingston Public Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead.

Intelligence indicated that Pellington was a prominent member of the Wailers Gang in the community. The police said he had a long criminal record, having been previously charged for various crimes including murder, shooting and sexual offences.

He was reportedly linked to Sunday’s gruesome double murder of Kirk Jenkins and Andrew Berry. A woman was shot and injured in that incident.

Pellington, the police said, was charged with the November 15, 2025 murder of Sequan ‘Kushie’ Grant on Bishop Avenue, Kingston 11, and was on bail but reported at the Olympic Gardens Police Station.
