Dr Godfrey lauded for healthcare, community development
TRELAWNY, Jamaica — The loudest cheers were reserved for popular Trelawny medical practitioner Dr Michael Godfrey during the National Heroes Day Civic and Awards Ceremony hosted by the Trelawny Municipal Corporation and the Jamaica Cultural Development Commission in the historic Water Square in Falmouth on Monday.
One of nine parish awardees, Godfrey was recognised for his contribution to healthcare and community development, particularly his support for students, mentorship of troubled youths and commitment to improving the lives of residents across the parish.
According to his citation, Godfrey’s service extends beyond his medical practice, as he has used his personal resources to help cover school fees and purchase books for students.
He has also offered mentorship and guidance to troubled youths, encouraging them to overcome challenges, make positive choices and work towards a brighter future.
A strong advocate for education, Godfrey has facilitated community service opportunities for students and contributed his time and resources to school activities throughout Trelawny. He has also supported health fairs and other initiatives promoting wellness among residents.
Beyond medicine and philanthropy, Godfrey is a recording artiste, reflecting his passion for music and the creative arts.
Dr Godfrey worked at Falmouth Public Hospital from 2002 to 2010, before transitioning to private practice.
“It has been a journey. I was so elated. I felt like I was part of the biosphere of the people of Trelawny. Trust me, I love it,” he told Observer Online.
