Kayon Raynor takes on the role of RJRGLEANER Group Editor-in-Chief

KINGSTON, Jamaica — Veteran journalist Kayon Raynor has been appointed Group Editor-in-Chief of RJRGLEANER Communications Group, effective October 20, 2026.

The appointment will see Raynor assume editorial leadership of The Gleaner and the newsrooms of Television Jamaica (TVJ) and Radio Jamaica 94 FM, with oversight of news operations across print, television and radio.

In a letter announcing the appointment, Executive Chairman Joseph Matalon said Raynor’s appointment forms part of the Group’s efforts to improve efficiency and strengthen coordination across its news operations, while preserving the distinct identities and editorial independence of its media brands.

Raynor brings nearly three decades of experience in journalism across print, broadcast and international media. He most recently served as Group Head of Sports and has received several industry awards during his career.

Matalon said that over the next month, the editorial teams will continue to operate largely as they do currently, while The Gleaner’s editor-in-chief and the deputy general manager for News, Sports and Current Affairs (Broadcast) work with Raynor to facilitate his transition and familiarise him with both operations.

Matalon expressed confidence that Raynor’s experience, leadership and understanding of the business would serve the Group well as it continues to evolve to meet the needs of its audiences.
