Rain-interrupted daCosta Cup matches resume Thursday

WESTMORELAND, Jamaica — Two ISSA daCosta Cup second-round matches abandoned due to heavy rain on Wednesday are set to resume Thursday, with the highly anticipated Group 1 clash between former champions Frome Technical and Munro College taking centre stage.

The top-of-the-table encounter at Frome is scheduled to resume at 3:00 pm, while Browns Town High and Cornwall College will also continue their rain-affected game at York Castle. Both matches were goalless when play was halted.

Frome Technical and Munro College enter Thursday’s showdown level on six points after winning their opening two second-round matches, with Frome holding the advantage on goal difference.

The hosts will be seeking revenge for a 5-0 defeat to Munro College in the second round of the Ben Francis Cup, while looking to build on their commanding 7-0 victory over Holmwood Technical last week.

Munro College, meanwhile, will be aiming to maintain their perfect daCosta Cup record, having won all nine matches played so far this season.

The St Elizabeth-based school has been impressive in attack, scoring 45 goals, with Kajaye Williams, Izion Frazer and Akel Vesprey spearheading their offensive efforts.

If Frome are to win Thursday, their defence must be locked in all 90 minutes while Wayne Mullings, Jovaunnie Whyte and Antwayne Campbell must put the Munro defence under pressure.

Thursday’s game could also decide the fate of Browns Town High and Cornwall College, who are coming off losses and must win if they are to keep their hopes alive.
