Flash flood watch issued for eight parishes until Sunday
KINGSTON, Jamaica — A flash flood watch has been issued for low-lying and flood-prone areas of eight parishes as showers and thunderstorms are expected to continue across Jamaica through Sunday evening.
The Meteorological Service of Jamaica said the watch, which takes effect until 5:00 pm on Sunday, October 25, covers St Ann, St Mary, Portland, St Thomas, Kingston, St Andrew, St Catherine and Clarendon.
According to the Met Service, a broad trough across the western Caribbean is producing a large area of disorganised showers and thunderstorms across the region, including Jamaica.
Light to moderate showers and thunderstorms have been affecting sections of eastern and south-central parishes since early Friday morning, based on rainfall reports and satellite imagery.

The forecast is for intermittent showers and thunderstorms, which may be heavy at times, to continue affecting most parishes, particularly eastern and central areas, through Sunday evening.
The Met Service also warned that sea conditions would continue to deteriorate in the vicinity of showers and thunderstorms.
Fishers and other marine interests, particularly those operating inshore and offshore along the south coast, have been urged to exercise caution.
A flash flood watch means flash flooding is possible. Residents in affected areas are advised to take precautionary measures, monitor further updates from the Met Service and be prepared to act quickly if flooding is observed or a warning is issued.
The Met Service said it would continue to monitor the system.
