WATCH: Temporary wooden classrooms under construction at Holland Primary
ST ELIZABETH, Jamaica—Work on temporary wooden classrooms at the Holland Primary School is ongoing seven weeks into the school year.
This latest development follows last month’s complaints from the school’s administrators and teachers about scorching heat and poor ventilation under tents being used as classrooms for second and third graders, as well as students seeking relief in the shade provided by a mango tree and a structure made of bamboo.

When the Jamaica Observer visited the school on Friday, a team from Approved Builders was seen painting one of two wooden structures on the school compound to house classrooms. The other structure was being prepared for roofing.
However, there were visible challenges at the school, with Principal Simone Doctor having to use a tarpaulin to cover furniture, books and move equipment in the school’s library amid inclement weather conditions due to a leaking roof.
