Wickham, Campbell sparkle in drawn tour match

DHAKA, Bangladesh (CMC) — Kevin Wickham and John Campbell scored half-centuries as West Indies batters made full use of favourable conditions on the final day of their two-day warm-up match against a Bangladesh Cricket Board XI, which petered out into a draw on Friday.

Wickham made an unbeaten 67, opener Campbell retired hurt after scoring 65, while useful knocks from captain Roston Chase, Amir Jangoo, Brandon King and Tagenarine Chanderpaul propelled them to 336 for six in 80 overs at the Anvir Cricket Stadium in response to the home side’s 371 for seven declared.

Campbell and King shared a speedy opening partnership of 83 in 13 overs before Annik Debbarma trapped the latter lbw for 40 off just 35 balls with eight boundaries.

With the score 122 for one, Campbell retired hurt after facing 78 balls and striking nine fours and two sixes.

Leg spinner Md Hossain accounted for the wickets of Hodge for 11 and Joshua Da Silva for 13, while Chanderpaul was run out for a patient 31 off 90 balls to reduce the visitors to 193 for four.

And when Hossain also dismissed Jangoo, who contributed 44 from 68 balls and Joshua Bishop for four, the West Indies were in a spot of bother at 238 for six.

However, Wickham and Chase ensured there were no further losses during an unbroken stand of 98 for the seventh wicket.

Wickham faced 107 balls and hit seven fours during his innings, while Chase’s unbeaten 46 off 65 balls contained three sixes and three fours.

Hossain was the pick of the Bangladesh bowlers with 4-55.

The West Indies have a rest day on Saturday before training at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium on Sunday and Monday, ahead of Wednesday’s opening Test.
