Mechanics freed of shooting charges
KINGSTON, Jamaica—Two mechanics of a St Andrew address, Roschane Miller, 34 and Carey Josephs, 47, were on Monday found not guilty in the Gun Court of a shooting incident that occurred on April 22, 2024, in the Burnt Shop district.
It was alleged that the two mechanics participated in a drive-by shooting of two men who sustained multiple gunshot injuries on the morning of April 22, 2024, as they sat on the roadside.
One of the victims of the shooting was unable to identify the assailants who were involved in the shooting and said to be in a motor car. However, the second victim claimed that he was able to see that Miller was the driver of the car and Josephs was the shooter.
During the trial, Miller, through his lawyer Samoi Campbell, denied being present at the scene and called witnesses to establish that he was in Barbican at the time. Josephs, through his lawyer Peter Champagnie KC, with the support of a witness who was called, presented evidence that at the time of the shooting he was in the Havendale Area at a school.
The trial was presided over by Chief Justice Bryan Sykes.
Both mechanics were found not guilty on the basis that the prosecution had not presented a case that was beyond a reasonable doubt.
