Morgan says PNP prepared to ‘burn down the country so that they can rule over the ashes’
Government Senator Marlon Morgan has been scathing in his take down of some supporters of the Opposition People’s National Party (PNP).
“One does not need to look far to see that the Opposition PNP, by way of its members, surrogates and deplorables on social media are using misinformation and disinformation as tools of political maneuvering. They peddle politically-contrived lies, assassinate people’s character and tear down Jamaica in their pursuit of partisan political advantage and clout,” said Morgan.
He was speaking in the Senate last Friday during his contribution to the 2026/27 State of the Nation Debate.
“What is particularly sad is that many of them are “monetised” – they literally get paid by the various social media platforms and ostensibly by their political benefactors and puppeteers to do the things they do,” Morgan added. He told the Parliament that “Jamaica is in urgent need of criminal sanction for defamation”.
Continuing, he said “The cesspool – this pit of misinformation and disinformation has no bottom. Just when you think the deplorables on social media cannot possibly be any more despicable and cannot possibly go any lower, they prove us wrong”.
Morgan told his fellow lawmakers that “driven by a desire to undermine the successes of our security forces in driving down murders to 30-year lows in this country, there is a palpable resentment of the police by the PNP’s surrogates and bloggers on social media”.
“They deliberately juxtapose at every turn, the issue of police fatal shootings with the reduction in murders to intimate that the police are doing something untoward in all instances; as though we have no mechanism for independent investigation and accountability,” he said.
According to Morgan, “In the wake of that most wretched, cowardly and brazen attack on the police in Sligoville last Friday (October 16), well-known PNP bloggers can be seen and heard across social media platforms rejoicing at the murder of Corporal Shaw and Constable Rose”.
“How disgusting?” he said while asking, “has Jamaica heard a word of condemnation and rebuke of those bloggers by [Opposition Leader] Mark Golding or any other member of the PNP?” He asserted that “frightening and decrepit though it is, this is a feature of the state of the nation today. Jamaica has a power hungry Opposition which seems prepared to go to any lengths – perhaps as far as to burn down the country so that they can get to rule over the ashes.”
