‘I haven’t seen my kids in 5 years’: Rygin King reunites with family on Jamaica return

After months in United States (US) immigration detention, Rygin King is making up for lost time where it matters most: at home with his children.

The Tuff singer, who returned to Jamaica on October 22, says he is focused on family and his health as he settles back into life on the island.

“I am spending time with the children. I haven’t seen my kids in five years. Plus I was in detention for months, and in my condition, I am checking on my health and doing the necessary tests,” he told Observer Online.

There is also time on the agenda for a few distinctly Jamaican comforts.

“Plus it is good to be back in Jamaica so mi ah soak mi foot dem inna seawater, eat some great Jamaican food and just get my mind right…the public soon see and hear from me.”

Rygin King, whose real name is Matthew Smith, had been held by US Immigration and Customs Enforcement since March 2026. He was reportedly detained just hours before a scheduled green card interview, because of the unresolved charges from a 2024 New York weapons case complicating his immigration proceedings.

The artiste pleaded not guilty to six charges in the Queens case, which stemmed from a traffic stop. Police alleged that a loaded firearm was found in his possession.

The unresolved charges he faced in that gun case were reportedly dismissed in October, Rygin King revealed.

Sources close to the deejay previously said concerns about his health influenced his decision to leave US detention and return to Jamaica through what they described as “voluntary deportation”. The precise legal terms of his departure remain unclear.

Rygin King has lived with a disability following a shooting. His US immigration future also remains unresolved, with no confirmation that his green card application has been reinstated or that he has permission to return to the United States.

For now, the singer is concentrating on his children, medical checks and getting his mind right—with a message to fans that they can expect to see and hear from him soon.
