ICE officer indicted after hitting man with vehicle in Texas
A Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officer was indicted on a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon after he allegedly ran over Miguel Parra Hernandez in Houston, who was on foot in Texas earlier this month.
According to NBC News 33-year-old Mario Alberto Morales was indicted by a Texas grand jury on Friday. This is reportedly the first time an ICE officer is indicted in Texas.
Harris County District Attorney Sean Teare reportedly played a newly released body-camera video which showed the ICE officer yanking his steering wheel and a loud sound was heard seconds later. The video showed Hernandez on the ground with his face on the pavement.
Teare was quoted by NBC News saying: “The evidence that we have in this case is as clear as any that I’ve ever prosecuted or investigated.”
However, an ICE spokesperson in a statement following the incident said Hernandez ran in front of the vehicle and was struck.
