Winsome Grant, former Caribbean Firefighter of the Year, passes
KINGSTON, Jamaica — The Jamaica Fire Brigade is mourning the loss of one of its senior officers, Senior Superintendent Winsome Grant, who reportedly died on Friday while receiving treatment at hospital following a brief illness.
Grant, who served the Jamaica Fire Brigade for more than 30 years, held responsibilities within the organisation’s Fire Prevention Department, where she played a role in overseeing and maintaining operational standards.
She also served for several years in the brigade’s Emergency Medical Services Department, contributing to the organisation’s emergency response efforts.
Her passing has reportedly come as a shock to colleagues and members of the wider firefighting fraternity, who are remembering her years of dedicated service.
In recognition of her outstanding contribution to the profession, Grant was named Caribbean Firefighter of the Year in 2011, an honour that highlighted her commitment and service to the firefighting community.
