Udinese striker Davis eyeing Reggae Boyz spot
Udinese striker Keinan Davis says discussions have taken place about representing Jamaica, but the England-born forward is still awaiting the completion of his Jamaican passport application before making the next step towards international football.
Davis, who has been enjoying an encouraging spell with Italian Serie A club Udinese, provided an update on his international future during an interview with CBS Sports Golazo, revealing that conversations have already taken place about the possibility of wearing the Reggae Boyz colours.
“I’ve had some conversations,” Davis said, while explaining that sorting out his Jamaican passport remains a major priority.
The 28-year-old 6ft 3 inches striker, born in England of Jamaican descent, said the administrative process was taking some time but expressed hope that the matter would be resolved.
“The procedure takes a little time, but we’ll see what happens in the future. I’m sorting out the passport,” he explained.
He also admitted that his injury history had previously influenced discussions about committing to international football, particularly given the demands of travelling between Europe and the Caribbean.
Davis, who represented England at the Under 20 level, said that when he spoke with Udinese last year, consideration was given to whether the additional travelling associated with international duty would be the best option for him as he sought to establish himself and remain available for club football.
However, the striker indicated that his current physical condition has improved and that he is determined to maintain his fitness.
“But now I’m well and I want to continue to be well,” he said.
The latest comments will provide encouragement for Jamaica, which has been keen to strengthen its attacking options.
His potential involvement would be a significant addition to the Reggae Boyz’ attacking department, given his physical presence, pace and experience in European football.
