Prezident Brown gone Hook Line And Sinker

Prezident Brown gone Hook Line And Sinker

One of the soldiers who carried the Rasta banner during the 1990s, Prezident Brown continues to honour the tenets of roots music. That includes writing and recording songs with positive themes.

It is a consistent theme on Hook Line And Sinker, the chanter’s latest album, which is scheduled for release on October 30 by Axx Records.

Prezident Brown co-produced the 10-song set with bass guitarist Devon Bradshaw of The Jahpostles Band.

In an interview with the Jamaica Observer the veteran artiste said the title track sets the tone.

“The message behind the title song is for us to use our musical talent for liberation of the mind. Like the great Gong Bob Marley said, ‘Emancipate [your mind] from mental slavery, none but ourselves can free our minds,’ ” Prezident Brown noted.

Hook, Line And Sinker will be released two years after Roots Hop Reggae (In Your Box), Prezident Brown’s previous album. That eclectic set is different in sound as he worked with mainly session musicians from the United States West Coast, where he is based.

For his latest project, the veteran artiste went into the vaults.

“All the songs were recorded in Jamaica between 2006 and 2009. Plus, it features a broader range of music, from roots-reggae to dancehall to ska,” Prezident Brown disclosed.

Founded by Bradshaw and his brother Anthony, who played guitar, The Jahpostles were the go-to roots band during the 1990s. Some of its members played in Burning Spear’s band and were Garnet Silk’s official backing unit at the time of his death in December 1994.

Devon Bradshaw, drummer Nelson Miller, guitarist Ian Coleman, keyboardist Ackeen Johnson, trombonist Everald Gayle, and saxophonist Everton Gayle also played on Hook, Line And Sinker.

The Clarendon-born Prezident Brown emerged during the 1990s along with a wave of roots acts such as Garnet Silk, Tony Rebel, Everton Blender, and Yasus Afari. Working with producer/engineer Barry O’Hare, he recorded several albums that earned him a following in Europe and the US West Coast.
