Scoring For Life
Kaydian and Conrad savour their first moments as newly-weds.Special Moments Photography

Scoring For Life

Kaydian Mayne and Conrad Brown first met in 2007 at a community sports tournament. It was her swift play on the netball court that first caught Conrad’s eye.

“She was so calm and composed; I remember thinking, ‘How can she be so calm when netball requires shouting?’” Conrad told Tuesday Style Vows (TSV).

Kaydian, for her part, was instantly drawn to Conrad’s caring nature — a kindness that shone through when he rushed to check on her after an opponent accidentally stepped on her ankle.

“While I was clutching my ankle, he walked over to me, asking if I was okay while holding onto my ankle. I guess he was the medicine I needed because I went right back into the game,” Kaydian fondly recalled.

As fate would have it, both enrolled at University of the Commonwealth Caribbean in 2016, which is where their love story took shape. Amidst the blur of lectures and coursework, Conrad became Kaydian’s steadfast anchor.

The Proposal

Her feelings truly crystallised when he spent hours tutoring her through a daunting macroeconomics course — even leading a targeted prep session 30 minutes before the final exam. She earned a B+!

“In that moment, I realised he was the one for me. He has a remarkable ability to lift me up and inspire me, reminding me of my worth even when I struggle to see it myself. With him by my side, I am encouraged to embrace my true self, and for that, I will always cherish our love,” Kaydian said.

Conrad eventually proposed on May 25, 2022 during Kaydian’s birthday party. Unbeknownst to her, a surprise remained to make the occasion truly life-changing.

“I was engaged in conversation with some of the guests when he approached me, his gaze full of warmth and excitement. He asked if we could dance to his favourite song
Forever by R Kelly. As we danced to the music, I noticed everyone was recording our moment, and curiosity washed over me. ‘Why is everyone filming us?’ I asked, but he simply smiled and replied, ‘Don’t worry about them; just listen to the words of the song,’” Kaydian said. “When he asked me if I understood the message I said ‘No’. So he sang it for me and then he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. I was so taken aback that I had initially ran off! I returned soon after, however, and shared an emphatic ‘Yes!’”

The Wedding

Four years later, on August 8, 2026, Conrad and Kaydian exchanged vows at The Lavish Palms in Kingston amidst a stunning setting styled by FutureEvents Ja. Kaydian was radiant in an ivory ball gown complete with a pearl cathedral veil from Elevated Gowns and Décor. Escorted up the aisle by her father Edgar Mayne to
First Time by Teeks, she met her groom, sharp in a tuxedo from Statement Pieces by Chris. Guided by Pastor Anthony White, the couple sealed their love, stepping joyfully into their new chapter.

The Reception

The celebrations flowed into the reception where the newly-weds basked in the warm wishes of loved ones. Kaydian paid a moving tribute to her late mother, Rafaleta Rookwood, alongside Conrad’s late father, Clive Brown — honouring two pivotal figures whose presence was sorely missed.

“While they couldn’t be there for this wonderful occasion, it made me feel complete knowing they had witnessed our engagement,” Kaydian said.

After the couple cut their two-tiered wedding cake from Tiers for Sweetness, the magic shifted to the dance floor when they took their first spin as husband and wife to Céline Dion’s
The Power of Love.

Following the festivities, Kaydian and Conrad honeymooned at Moon Palace Jamaica in Ocho Rios.
