Big Chunes rocked Mas Camp
...despite inclement weather
Event organiser Sheldon Cuff says that, despite the inclement weather, the recent staging of Big Chunes attracted a fair-sized turnout of patrons.
Held recently at Mas Camp, Big Chunes featured the musical juggling of Krazy Kris, Little Richie, Bishop Escobar, and Stone Love.
“The ladies came out to enjoy themselves and, even though the venue wasn’t packed, we had a decent turnout of patrons,” Cuff told the
Jamaica Observer.
Now in its eighth year, Big Chunes has become one of the most anticipated retro parties on the entertainment calendar, focusing on music from the 1980s to the 2000s.
“It was high-tempo party vibes which complemented the chilly weather conditions. For me, Bishop Escobar’s hip hop set stole the spotlight. The crowd really enjoyed his set,” said Cuff.
Reflecting on the event’s growth, Cuff said the first staging of Big Chunes was held in May 2018.
“The event has shown a 50 per cent increase in patronage for each successive staging. Initially, we came up with the idea for the party, because we were tired of going to parties and hearing the same tired, played out songs. So Big Chunes was created to give patrons the opportunity to enjoy the biggest hits from all genres, from all different eras,” Cuff shared.
Guinness has partnered with Big Chunes for the past three years.
“Big Chunes is an event that is built around the idea of playing the big tunes and hits from the different eras. In keeping with the mantra of Guinness and what it stands for, which is togetherness and being able to come together and enjoy something, it’s about celebrating big tunes. The partnership has existed for at least three years, and we continue to support as they build the brand and we engage our consumers within their experience,” said Nadine Hylton, brand manager for Guinness.
