Spectacular dos kick off new year
For those wishing the end of another year are truly mortified with just how 2002 has kicked off. A friend of mine summed it up quite succintly. Those in power ain’t coming out and those out of power are going in.
The recipe is clearly one for disaster.
Well thoughts of 2001 still linger, on some of those really spectacular dos. Gregory Mayne’s 40th birthday party, Kingsley Cooper’s Christmas Eve spectacular, Sophia Max Brown’s Christmas night birthday bash and those quiet New Year’s Eve rendezvous at which Blue Lagoon emerged once again the place to be. The place was swarming with celebs who included Bianca Jagger and Colombian singer Shakira.
Those in for the party season included: Amber and Bobby Stewart who now call London home, Christopher Dehring, Nicole Pitter Patterson, Janice Elliot from Barbados, Shaun and Warren Mottley who did the Jamaican family round, Michelle Haynes was in from Los Angeles. London was the first stop. Ernst Forstmayr in from Atlanta, who did the Utopia bash in-between puts at Round Hill, and in the mix was Paulwell’s best friend Donovan Grant. Nicole Haughton was in Jamaica, there was no sign of Johnny Barnes, but many read the Daily Mail newspaper articles, and felt sorry for Mrs Suzy Barnes and her four children. We’re keeping our eyes wide open for the £17,000 worth of designer goods and the BMW convertible. Nicole has completed her masters and is eyeing a UN position in Belgium in-between starting her Phd.
Chris Chin Loy ties the knot this week and Mitzi Seaga and Paul Thomas continue together. The whiz kid as it would appear completed his musical chairs and is now back at Cable and Wireless. His wife is back from official duties in New York (and close friends are cruel enough to suggest that this is the reason for him returning uptown) my guess is that it’s his multi-million dollar townhouse recently acquired in the Golden Triangle.
Lois Samuels is contemplating modelling consultancy here in Jamaica and is in no rush to leave. Kingsley Cooper is charming the folks at Gucci.
Michael Lee Chin had the family over to the Miami estate for Christmas. In-between boat rides and helicopter spins, it certainly was an exhilirating affair. New family member, Diana Thorburn, and hubby Wayne are now in South Africa on a month’s honeymoon .
If Jamaica pulled out a few celebs, Barbados did it’s fair share, let’s just say that the Sandy Lane is fully booked for the winter season. Saint Bart’s is where the Chairman of the Board dropped anchor for the season, and the power outage in Dutch Saint Martin fizzled their New Year’s but over at the French side the place was buzzing with tourists and there was much light. And in Toronto our own Donette Chin Loy and Ray Chang hosted an intimate soiree.
A Bientot!
PS Calm has once again been restored to that shopping oasis ‘Orchidville’ off Barbican Road. I’m not too sure where the fabulous society hairdresser is now parking her car but the showdown between the doc, her daughter and the hairdresser was akin to Ali.
PPS Get your outfits ready for the Air Jamaica Jazz and Blues Festival February 7 to 10 in Montego-Bay. The gorgeous Babyface will be the star performer.
