Caribbean Fashion-week on E!
The worldwide broadcast of Caribbean Fashionweek 2001 by Fashion Television continued last week with repeat airings of the CFW news clips on E!, America’s lifestyle, fashion and entertainment channel. The broadcast seen by more than 100 million viewers in the United States and several other countries around the world featured excerpts from the designers’ collections shown last November as well as interviews with organisers and celebrities who attended. CFW is also being aired on Style in the United States.
Caribbean Fashionweek will once again be staged this November (7-10) and is produced by Pulse in association with Jampro, Jamaica Business Development Centre, the Hilton, TVJ, RJR group of radio stations and other sponsors to be announced.
Last year’s inauguration was an unqualified success attracting rave reviews in international publications ranging from New York’s Daily News to London’s New Nation to international magazine Sister to Sister. A top flight production team out of New York combined with Jamaica’s best fashion co-ordinators to create 28 fashion shows in eight sets of collections featuring designers from Jamaica, Guyana, St Lucia and Trinidad and Tobago. This year’s event is set to grow significantly with likely showings by Gucci and Russell Simmonds Def Jam creations.
Fashion Television first aired CFW on Toronto’s Citytv on February 9th and 10th Two separate CFW programmes were produced by Fashion Television. The first, a news feature has already aired in most markets and the second, which will follow, are also available on Fashion Television’s website. New York’s Fashion Report will air its story on Caribbean Fashionweek in the United States shortly. Also to air (in April) are the UK’s Fashion Network and BCD in Style in the US.
Fashion Television is syndicated and the CFW program is currently airing or will air shortly, in a number of markets. In Canada it was seen as on Citytv, the NewsNet — Ontario, ASN — Maritimes, A-Channel –Manitoba, Calgary & Edmonton, CFCF –Montreal, Star! The Entertainment Information Station — National. CFW is being carried via satellite to Austria, Belgium, Croatia, Denmark, France, Germany and Greece.
In the Caribbean the Fashion Television programme is now being seen given the region’s easy access to cable, satellite and Direct TV. In addition Pulse will produce a weekly Style File report from CFW 2001. This will replace last year’s successful CFW Monthly which aired on TVJ in Jamaica. Twenty-six designers from Jamaica, Trinidad, Guyana, and St Lucia showed collections at Fashionweek. They are Barry Moncriffe, Zadd, Uzuri, Less Campbell, Samatha, Claudia Pegus, Elaine Elegance, Roger Gary, Bill Edwards, The Cloth, Mutamba, Heather Jones, Mushroom, Siim, La Femme Elegante, Catch a Fire, Modern Equator, Wright Style and Kokoya.
