Shimmer this season!
The invites are pouring in. You have your holiday outfits laid out; shoes, jewellery, handbag, all coordinating of course. And now the icing on the cake. You. That’s right, regardless of your outfit, your radiantly, shimmering face should be what makes people turn their heads as you step out this holiday season. all woman turns to beauty expert, Charmaine Duhaney at Body Accents for her Top 5 tips on holiday make-up.
1. The perfect pout. Experiment with lip colour, by stepping out of the safety zone. Red is a hot, festive colour this season. However, there is a wide range of reds, and it may not suit every skin type.
Make sure to test a range of different reds before making a decision. For colour that lasts, Duhaney suggests opting for a red from the Iman line. She also advises against the shiny look, so instead keep the look creamy with a little sheen.
2. Fluttering fun. When it comes to lashes, Duhaney says, “Don’t leave home without them!” Whether you keep it natural with a body-building mascara, for example Revlon’s ‘Lotta Lash’, or you go with false lashes for that extra lush look, make sure they are in perfect position to flutter.
3. Rosy glow. Duhaney’s number one piece of advice when it comes to eye shadow, “go for a nice tanned look, but you don’t want to look like someone slapped you!” Opt for bronzer instead of blush – that can sometimes give you that clown look – to get that subtle glow. Lightly brush all over, concentrating on cheeks, forehead and nose.
4. Luscious Lids. Like the bronzer, keep things natural, sticking to bronze and gold as highlighters. However, Duhaney suggests pulling a colour from your outfit and using it on your lids. Green is hot for Christmas, and MAC has a great selection so check it out once you have chosen your outfit. Remember, use colour sparingly… Remember that it’s a whisper… not a shout.
5. Sweet Dreams. Just as important as applying the make-up, is taking it off at the end of the night. If you have trouble skin, Duhaney suggests that you stick with the Mary Kay brand of cleansers, toners and moisturisers. For those with more mature skin, the Fashion Fair line has products that rejuvenate while cleansing.
But the advice doesn’t stop there. When buying make-up, it’s not just what you buy, but how you buy. Duhaney reminds us that everyone is different, and the looks will be different for every skin type, so your best bet is to talk to a professional before buying, or even have a professional apply a look for you.
Most importantly, don’t bring a friend who’s in a hurry, buying make-up takes time. Also, know what you like before you go, or go with an open mind as make-up artists are not just there to sell, they are professionals. Make-up is a great way of lifting the spirits and boosting your confidence. Beauty on the outside can often reassure the beauty inside, and vice versa. So go out and shine this holiday season, inside and out.
