Romance by the Sea
The picturesque seascape setting of the Sunset Beach Resort and Spa in Montego Bay provided the perfect backdrop for the nuptials of Nicole Young and Kristof De Vastey on Saturday, August 1, 2009. The alfresco evening affair was a true celebration of love that was witnessed by 100 of their closest relatives and friends, an intertwining of Nicole’s Jamaican culture and Kristof’s Haitian heritage.
It all began in 2006 when the couple met while studying at the Florida International University. In Nicole’s own words, there were sparks from the beginning but they were both intimidated to make the first move. “We first noticed each other at a popular hangout spot – ‘the Panther Pit’ – but neither of us could muster up the courage to speak to the other. Finally, one faithful day, I made the first move and we became inseparable ever since.” After two years of courting, Kristof confessed his love for Nicole in September of 2008 and asked her to marry him.
Being both from the Caribbean, the couple decided to have a beach-themed wedding and chose Jamaica as the location for the celebrations. After a year of planning, the couple’s dream became a reality. The bride appeared on the arm of her doting father, Vincent Young, and was simply elegant in a white A-line sheer spaghetti halter by Faviana, which featured delicate and intricate beadwork along the gathered bustline. Her hair, styled in an upswept chignon accented by a pearl sea horse pin, as well as her modern jewellery, gave her a romantic glow. She clutched a green and white hydrangea bouquet hand-tied with a cream ribbon accented by a starfish.
Not to be outdone, the dashing groom, in keeping with the summer beach theme, was outfitted in a tan summer suit contrasted by a green shirt by Express, complete with a green hydrangea boutonniére.
The impressive bridal party was also comfortably styled in chic outfits perfectly suited for the beach-themed occasion: Maid of honour Desree Young and bridesmaids Stephanie Young, Valerie De Vastey, Tanya Walters, Tamicka Williams, Shauna Myers-Housen wore long, white empire-waist maxi dresses of soft jersey fabric. Junior bridesmaids Anick, Naelle and Teah De Vastey, as well as flower girl Tamia Coleman wore white summer dresses accented by green ribbon waistbands. The ladies carried white Asiatic lilies, green and red hypericum berries wrapped with a green ribbon accented with a starfish. They were complemented by their counterparts, best man Jose Fernandez and groomsmen Vadim Dambreville, Vladimir Jean and Serge Jean Baptiste and Clifford De Vastey in tan summer suits with white shirts, while junior groomsmen Alex De Vastey, Nicholas and Nathan Lyn and ring bearer Nicholas De Vastey rounded out the party in white linen shirts with khaki drawstring slacks by Express.
The ceremony, held on the lawns of the resort and officiated by Reverend Clament Clarke, was followed by a reception held at the Beaching Terrace. Marie Chin of Creative Flowers and Gardens executed the design concept created by the bride and her sister, Desree Young. The spectacular affair included makeshift pews of chairs draped with white fabric accented by chocolate-brown and apple-green ties. Romantic lighting came in the form of white paper lanterns strategically placed throughout the lawns.
Guests enjoyed the sumptuous fare prepared by the Sunset Beach Resort and Spa staff. The celebrations went well into the night and the evening culminated with guests hitting the dance floor.
The couple spent their honeymoon at Hedonism II
in Negril.
