Crazy in-law stories
Truth is, when you marry someone, you don’t just marry them, you marry their families as well. And with this new family can come some crazy new rules, as the readers below share.
Sasha, 33:
My boyfriend at the time brought my now mother-in-law to visit us at the house we were living in. I had no idea she was coming over and so I was in my house clothes at the time, doing some chores. I was in a little skimpy top and long tights. She took one look at me and blurted out, “She look like she coulda go work in a go-go club”. It was just awkward for the entire evening.
Marie, 37:
With my husband, who is a mama’s boy (even though he doesn’t want to admit it), I found that I would have to be competing with his mother. I don’t feel like the wife when she is around. Everything I do she second guesses, which in turn makes my husband second guess me. It’s like his mother is the first wife and I’m the second.
Danielle, 35:
My mother-in-law is standoffish and miserable to say the least. But one thing I notice with her, ever since I gave her grandchildren she religiously comes over to the house every Sunday, to ‘check up’ on her grandchildren.
Marsha, 37:
I heard my mother-in-law ask my husband once (before we got married), if he couldn’t find anything better out there. I guess he couldn’t as the ring is still on my finger.
Diandra, 34:
My mother-in-law runs her son’s life. She tells him what to do, and what to spend his money on. At one point she was even telling him how much money to spend on me. That’s when I had to put my foot down.
Carlene, 36:
My husband one day said he wanted his mother to move in with us and the children. Major mistake. If she heard a noise coming from our room the night before, she would make it a point of duty to mention it.
Ruth, 37:
My mother-in-law wanted to break us up. She began to create mischief. She would say things to my man like, ‘She deh a work? How you know seh she deh weh she suppose to deh? Suppose she have a next man?’ For me it was so disheartening to know that one woman was so hell bent on ensuring that her son would end up alone.
