From my experience, every man has a girl who he believes got away, meaning that for some reason or the other it didn’t work out between them but he still feels strongly about her and is willing to bend over backwards for even the slightest hint that the two of them could be together. When it comes to the woman he is currently with, it is as if she is second best and he just had to settle.

My husband is from the country and so growing up, his life was always filled with the presence of women, from his grandmother, to his sister, to his aunt who migrated. All the women hold a special place in his heart. Once they need anything, he goes running in to save the day. But family is family.

Most of us as women don’t plan this but what is a girl to do when her man’s best friend is a woman? If you don’t want to go out because you’re tired, he just rings up his gal pal and she is available and ready to go. It is even worse when the two of them are coming from far. That is one thing that a woman cannot compete with — history. I can’t tell you how many times I have contemplated getting a male bestie myself!

My husband has a coworker and they are thick like glue. In the past I used to be threatened by it, now I just keep a safe distance and allow the ‘friendship’ to blossom. I mean I have the ring, the house and children and so all in all I did win, so no need to overreact.

My husband can’t say no to one of our female pastors. Once she needs something, he is always willing to help. I am a churchgoer myself, but at some point you have to draw the line somewhere. I mean, he is only one person. She knows that if she asks him to do something it will get done.

When I met my current boyfriend, he had just broken up with his girlfriend and so he was on the rebound. At the time I believe that in his mind he was still between her and me. He just couldn’t make up his mind. If she called and decided that she wanted to talk, he would go running. If she called and asked for a favour, as long as he felt as if it could lead to them getting back to together, he would run to her, every single time, without fail.

The modern woman nowadays has to deal not only with her man but the baggage he comes along with. Men are already scarce and so many of us as women are willing to compromise and just take what we get. However, the baby mother is for sure one of the women in his life who he cannot say no to. She often uses him as a bargaining tool to get what she wants. It’s manipulation at its highest.
