Are you obsessed with getting married?

BY PENDA HONEYGHAN

THE wedding day is perhaps the most anticipated day in a woman’s life. You want your day to be perfect and exactly like you imagined, but anticipation and excitement can easily be transformed into obsession if you allow the idea of marriage to consume you.

Below, sex therapist Sidney McGill shares with All Woman some indicators that your behaviour is way over the top.

1. You’re dreaming about weddings regularly

It is quite normal to dream of your wedding day, but when this dream becomes repetitive and you believe it’s a sign from a supreme being, that’s an indication that you’ve gone too far.

2. Rushing a recent romance

You have been dating for a few months, but you constantly hear the sound of wedding bells. You try to fast-forward your relationship before it has developed to where a commitment is a safe bet to make. You begin to lower your standards and ignore things that were once important. This is a sign of desperation.

3. Copious tears during wedding ceremonies

Yes, a marriage is a beautiful occasion and you are allowed to be happy for your friends whose wedding you’re attending, but if you find that you are tearful throughout the entire ceremony, then you are obsessed.

4. Every conversation centres on weddings

When every conversation you have with family and friends lead to the same topic, this can get annoying. Even if marriage is at the centre of your universe, your friends and family may have other important issues they want to discuss.

5. Bye-bye girls’ nights

The magic of a movie featuring beautiful wedding ceremonies is appealing to almost every girl, so there is nothing wrong with watching and rewatching it. But girls’ night was an important part of your weekly schedule and you refused to miss out on it even when your boyfriend invited you for a drink. So if you start skipping out on the girls just so you can find inspiration for your wedding day in these movies, then you may be obsessed.

6. Your social media profile takes on a wedding theme

Wedding rings, flowers, co-ordinated bridesmaids, expensive ceremonies and even status updates about family, happiness, weddings and anniversaries are all that you post on social media now. You are so consumed with the idea, you even begin to do your searches and make posts online while at work. The fact that you will risk getting caught at work doing everything other than your job is a sign that you are obsessed with getting married.
