The importance of family time
SCHOOL is back in full swing and most families are now busy with balancing work, home and their children’s school life. However, it’s important that the value of family time is not forgotten.
Research shows that quality time spent together as a family is vital for the holistic development of children, and data presented by the US Department of Health and Human Services Substance Abuse and Mental Health Administration in 2012 showed various steps to a healthy parent-child relationship, and highlighted the importance of spending time with family to foster communication, provide positive reinforcement and role models, teach social skills and for bonding.
Additionally, family time creates cohesiveness and fosters togetherness within the family unit. It also fosters psychological wellness, which will help to keep your child and family in check; improves academic performance as children will develop good prioritising skills; boosts self-esteem; promotes emotional wellness and helps your children to establish boundaries.
One aim of raising families is to build strong children who will make positive contributions to society, therefore, always remember that family time is essential for the holistic development of your children.
