How to spice up an ailing marriage
YOU may have been married for decades or you’re in a long-term relationship that lacks romance, and the sex, dinners and spontaneous activity have fizzled. But all is not lost.
According to relationship counsellor Wayne Powell, a simple thing such as changing the routine for the time and place for sex, or taking an affordable yet romantic vacation are great ways to revive an ailing union.
So:
1. Go on dates
Powell said you’re never to old to do this. Take some time to have fun and charm your partner.
2. Re-enact some of the early romantic activities
If you bought her flowers, gave her surprise gifts, cooked for her or ran her a bath in the past, do them again. For women, if you pampered your man and treated him to the things he liked, continue to do them.
3. Do a mutual body massage
There’s nothing better than caressing each other.
4. Check in with each other throughout the day
Powell suggested sending “I love you” texts or cute messages to each other throughout the day and ensuring you say something that will keep a smile on your partner’s face.
5. Do something special that is not connected to a birthday, anniversary or any other special event.
The relationship counsellor said couples should not wait until marked calendar dates to do something special for their significant others. Be spontaneous.
6. Take home a gift that is simple but meaningful
Gifts shouldn’t only come when it’s the holidays or an important date. Try bringing your woman a pair of shoes she likes and women can opt for something like a watch or gadget that their men would appreciate.
7. Instead of watching TV, talk about fond memories.
Try cuddling up on a chair or your bed and take a walk down memory lane and reminisce on the wonderful moments you’ve shared together.
8. View your wedding video/album together
Seeing these will remind you why you made the vow to each other and may ignite the feelings you had on the day.
