Is fluffy still in?
A few years ago the age of the fluffy girl dawned, with women like Miss Kitty adding oomph and credence to the female form that many Jamaican men had worshipped for years. Women with fluff were idolised in song and slang, a confidence boost for those who had sought acceptance before in a world where slimmer girls seemed to have all the fun.
But has there been a shift, especially with the now heavy promotion of healthier lifestyles, which would make being fluffy unfashionable? The fluffy American actress Gabourey Sidibe had to shut down her haters last week, when many took to social media to criticise her steamy rooftop sex scene in Empire. Some fat-shamers called her too big to snag a man like that in real life; others hinted that she was not just overweight, but morbidly obese.
Do Jamaican men still like fluffy women, or has the hype subsided?

It really doesn’t matter for me. I see past the physical in women I date. If she’s slim, thick, or a big beautiful woman as they now say, as long as her personality is up and I can see where she really checks for me, I’m OK.
Ricardo Johnson:
No sah. No fluffy woman. I’m pro health and as such a ‘like’ would mean I’m going against my beliefs in a healthy lifestyle. I know everyone can’t be slim, but morbid obesity is dangerous. I can’t support that.

Yes, I love them. The more cushion the better. Can’t manage the bones. When mi cold a night I need some warmth.

I have nothing against them, but I wouldn’t date one. They’re just not my type.

I love them but I don’t know the definition anymore. I called a girl fluffy once and she cuss mi out and say she ‘thick’ and ‘stay good’. She went further to say fluffy is an unusual shape. But differently, I love them fluffy to di worl’!

No. I was with the hype, but it is really an unhealthy lifestyle we were glorifying. You nuh see the person responsible for it slim down?

It depends on what fluffy is. If it’s girls who are fat but attractive I don’t see an issue, but if you can’t fit in a single seat then we may have a problem.

We live in a diverse culture and at any given moment the trend changes. I don’t think it’s a popular thing anymore, but as long as she has a good heart I’m good. Looks will fade and if you’re serious about someone you will realise that looks will be there for so long and no more. A slim girl can get fluffy and a fluffy girl can get slim. What then? It really doesn’t matter as long as the intentions are pure.
