Divorce drama
A divorce can be a very painful life experience. And while many couples are capable of reaching an amicable compromise after the split, for others there can be years and years of drama.
Kay-Ann
Below, two people who found themselves on one of these roller coaster rides share with
All Woman their divorce drama stories.
“I’d just turned 30, with 11 years of marriage under my belt. For nine of our 11 years of marriage this man was living a double life. Chris had the nerve to have a family on the side — he had not one but two children and I never suspected a thing.”
Kay-Ann said that this piece of truth was the beginning of a few months of torture.
“I was home alone because our son was with my husband’s mom, when someone knocked on the door. I went out to see a woman with children. Before I could ask what she wanted, she began threatening me, saying that she was the part-time wife with rights to half of what I would get out of the relationship. Stunned, I closed the door.”
She said over the next couple of months her car was spraypainted —“Unable to keep a man”, “Glue less”, “Maid”, “ATM” and “Wife #2”, a sequence of activities which resulted in her leaving her job, as Wife #1 had gone to her workplace to make a scene.
She said for six weekends the mother of her husband’s children destroyed whatever she could in her yard and called and hung up every 15 minutes between 1:00 and 4:00 am every day. She had to move half way across the country to get some peace.
Mike
For Mike, harassment also played a factor in his divorce, only for him the act was committed by his estranged wife and not a third party.
“The worst of my nightmares had only just begun when our marriage ended. The divorce was messy, filled will irrationalities and insecurities,” he said.
He had found out after five years of marriage that Sarah was using him. The sex had stopped and they were basically roommates, and when he found a note she had written to herself about deceiving him, he became determined to get his life back together. But she would have none of it.
“The woman became a maniac. I knew she was a materialistic money junkie, but what I didn’t know was that she was crazy,” Mike admitted.
He said that she started by first slashing his tyres, poisoning his dog, and breaking the back windows of the house.
“I offered her the house, I even moved out and the woman found me. She was now like a bodyguard, only I felt more scared than ever.
“She messaged my mother and sister and sent them hundreds of fabricated gay exchanges between me and some fictional character. She even Photoshopped images of me with a man and uploaded it to social media,” he said.
Mike said that the next few months of his life were a nightmare.
“I had dreams that she was trying to kill me; that’s how horrible it was. It took months for me to clear my name on social media and I had to move away to get from her. But I am finally free.”
