True confession: I was almost a victim of obeah
Lance, 39:
I was in a relationship with my now wife for roughly six years. We had three children together. I wasn’t a one-woman man; not that I couldn’t be, but I saw no need to. I just had to see what else was out there.
I met this woman from St Thomas. She was the prettiest woman I had ever been with. She would only come to town on weekends, so when she came my entire time was devoted to her.
We had been dating for a while when she invited me to meet her family. I found every reason in the book why I couldn’t make it. She wasn’t happy but I couldn’t understand why, as she knew I had a woman and children, and knew I wasn’t going to commit myself to her. I realised then that she was getting too attached so I slowly backed off.
But she kept calling. I gave in and we started to see each other again. She no longer had demands and I didn’t bother to ask her why, all I knew was that I was having fun with this beautiful woman.
She ended up coming to town more often and she became a bit more demanding of my time which I had to remind her had to be shared between her and my family. She got upset about me not making time for her and for about a month she moved back to the country.
Then one day out of the blue she called me requesting a date. When I went to see her she had cooked dinner for me. I didn’t eat that night, but she made sure to pack the dinner for me to take home. I had no problem with this, as my wife had left to go visit her sister in Florida and the kids and I hardly cooked at home.
I put the food she cooked in the refrigerator, thinking I could eat it the next day. But when I woke up I noticed that the children had beat me to it, and hadn’t left any for me.
Soon they started to complain about not feeling well. As the day progressed they got worse, and I took them to the doctor. He said it must have been something they ate.
I called my girl afterwards and told her what had happened. She was shocked, and said the food was never meant for the children, it was meant for me. Then she hung up the phone. When I went to her place in town I was told that she had already left for the country.
I questioned the lady at the house she’d been staying at, and she revealed that the girl’s grandfather was an obeah man. Now I don’t believe in certain things at all, but I do believe that girl was up to no good. I haven’t heard from her since then.
She was the last woman I cheated on my woman with. After the smoke cleared I came to my senses and married the mother of my children.
