The worst response to my ‘I love you’
Summoning the nerve to say ‘I love you’ can take a long time; it’s a nerve-wracking process for some, especially when you’re unsure of how the other party feels.
Many times the feelings are reciprocated, but then, there are other times when they’re not, as the people below share.
Arleen, 41:
This happened to me once. When he said “I love you”, all I could say was, “Really, why?” And after he told me his reasons I told him that he was so sweet and gave him a kiss then changed the subject. There was no way I was going to tell him I loved him back when I didn’t.
Crissy, 29:
I told a guy once that I loved him and he just laughed and told me that I was too young to know what love was. I was 19 at the time and he was 30. It hurt like hell.
Morgan, 38:
When I first met my wife I just knew that she was the one I was going to marry. A few months into dating her I kept telling her I loved her, but she wouldn’t say it back. I told her it was OK if she didn’t love me as yet because one day I knew she would. She told me I was freaking her out with all this love talk so I stopped telling her. On February 14th 2013, a year later, she finally told me she loved me. We got married in June of that year at the RGD.
Kelise, 30:
A guy once told me he loved me. I responded by saying, “That’s nice, but I don’t love you.” I knew I hurt his feelings but I didn’t want to give him false hope. He was just a guy I dated. I never saw sparks in his eyes or felt anything when we kissed. He was good company and I liked his personality, but that was about it.
David, 32:
I never knew how much it hurt not having someone feel the same way about you that you feel for them until I met my ex. She was just cold. After being with her for two years she never once told me she loved me. I told her a few times, but she just brushed it off.
