The worst of times
YOUR partner of ten years tells you that it’s over and that they only stayed with you this long because of the convenience of having you around. You are floored. You become angry with them and lash out by cursing them and calling them every name under the sun. You call your family and friends and put them on blast.
But should you blame your partner completely for the devastating break-up? Did you not see it coming, or did you see the signs and ignore them?
What are the signs that a relationship is sinking?
Kenny:
If she no longer has an interest in doing the things we used to do together to build and strengthen the relationship, then something is wrong.
Sabrina:
Sometimes there are no signs because the person makes it seem as if all is well. So when they eventually tell you it’s over, you end up feeling confused because you never saw it coming.
Calvin:
Is she not as affectionate as she used to be, or did she stop doing the simple things that would make you happy?
Dee:
If he doesn’t want to have sex with me anymore. What man doesn’t want sex? So the fact that he doesn’t want to have sex with me, I don’t need any bigger sign than that.
Barbie:
One sign that I would look out for is the amount of time he is spending away from home, time that he can’t justify. The other sign would be a lack of communication – if he’s not talking to me as much as he used to.
