On cougars and ‘bosses’
A woman dates a young guy and she is a cougar. A man dates a young woman and he is the ‘boss’.
Why this hypocrisy? It has been part of our culture for too long that a man can do anything and still remain decent, while a woman who does the same will wear the Scarlet A.
This is a crazy double standard! Just like men, women do have preferences in the type of men they desire. Some women desire their men to be of a certain height, complexion, and yes, age, and the same goes for men. A young woman may desire to date an older man because she feels more secure in that type of relationship, and a woman in her 50s may simply be interested in young men because they excite her. And her preference should be respected. But people will be quick to categorise the young woman as a gold-digger and the older woman as a cougar. While this can be true in some cases, when men do the same thing, nothing is said about them in a derogatory way.
It may be frowned upon when there are vast age differences between partners, but both sexes should be equally berated, if that is the reaction. But when a man sleeps around and he is given a crown, and a woman is given the thumbs down, this is a problem. If a woman is going to be reprimanded for targeting a young man the same age as her son, the man of 50 who zones in on young women in their 20s should also be chided.
