The most dishonest men
LIES, no matter how small, have the power to destroy relationships. But we are all guilty of lying to our significant others at some point, whether it’s a little white lie or a deliberate scheme to mislead, out of fear, embarrassment or guilt.
All Woman asked female readers to share the most dishonest thing a partner has done or said to them. Here are their stories:
Kayla, 29, bank teller:
My boyfriend got a woman pregnant and swore to me that the ‘rumours’ were just rumours. It turns out that he was the one with the lying lips.
Jessica, 29, customer service representative:
I can recall when a boyfriend of mine got up and got dressed for work as usual. But instead of going to work, you know what he did? He found himself at another woman’s house. I guess it was a form of work, in his view.
Lorie, 34, realtor:
I knew he was in a tough financial position, so when he kept asking for money beyond the amount I was helping him with — mostly to take care of bills he had incurred a while back – I didn’t think much of it. Anyway, it wasn’t long before I learnt that he was wining and dining this lovely, slim, light-skinned uptown girl. I guess only my money was good enough for him.
Rose, 43, caregiver:
Almost 20 years ago my boyfriend told me to abort my three-and-a-half-month pregnancy because he had a genetic condition that would be passed on to our child that would make the child blind, and develop other neurological conditions. It turns out his mother told him to make me get rid of the child, because the family from which I came was not “good enough” to raise an offspring who shared a bloodline with her. He got another young woman pregnant within six months of deserting me.
Michelle, 35, collection officer:
He had two of us — I was his bed warmer every other week. This was convenient for him. He promised marriage, a family and a future, but I ended up a very broken woman because this man had two other women, one living abroad and the second one a few parishes away to whom he made these very same promises. When I decided to surprise him one night, I met his very pregnant girlfriend sprawled off in the bed that we shared, surrounded by family who pretended that I was just a friend. In that moment, though, he “informed” me that we had not been together for months. This is a man who sent me good morning texts every day, put me to bed at night, and called me several times throughout the day to remind me that he loved me. In fact, while I was on my way to see him we were sexting. But hey, his dishonesty may have saved me from future dangerous STDs.
Dahlia, 24, store manager:
So this girl started stalking me… I would see her in places I frequented. Then I got a phone call from a woman introducing herself as my partner’s fiancée. Then I kept getting calls, but the person on the other end remained dead silent. I asked my boyfriend about her and even shared her number and he took God from the cross — he insisted that the girl was delusional. When I started ignoring her, the girl found my sister on Facebook to share very recent pictures of her with him. This drove a wedge between us, and of course my sister was insistent that because he was capable of this kind of lie, he was not worthy of my time. I had to agree.
