“It wasn’t me…”
BEING cheated on can be quite painful, and if you’re unfortunate enough to have had a partner whose ego was bigger than his/her selfish, disrespectful, cowardly acts, then no doubt the culprit would have played dumb, tried to blame you, or proceeded to manufacture a string of lies. In all likelihood, you would have had to endure some absurd excuses, similar to those shared by the victims below.
Walcott, 26, security guard:
“It was an accident.” No, my sweet darling, car accidents happen, people spill a drink on another person by accident, you step on someone’s toe accidentally; but if you decide to cheat, that’s not an accident.
Petrina, 32, sales representative:
“I was drunk.” I don’t understand how he was drunk so often.
Jenelle, 30, marketing consultant:
I “didn’t make enough time” for him. Well, considering that he was out of a job and I couldn’t be available 24 hours, and considering that I was determined not to fall back on our mortgage and I didn’t want us or our child to starve, I think those 10 hours outside of the home were spent for a worthy cause.
Camisha, 37, hotel manager:
He was “just doing what I constantly accused” him of. He said he never cheated before, but my constant nagging made him do it. According to him, he was tired of “bearing the name and not playing the game”.
Kimoni, 33, customer service representative:
“Why are you always making assumptions?” Even when the proof was staring us in the face, he always tried to make it seem as though I was imagining things and making things up. He also said I shouldn’t assume the worst, because flirting didn’t mean he had any intention of hooking up with the person.
Brandon, 38, mechanic:
“You weren’t giving me enough attention.” I didn’t know that instead of talking about something missing in a relationship, you’d just go ahead and get it somewhere else.
Ann-Marie, 31, secretary:
According to him, everyone cheats. He insisted that the flesh is weak, and demanded that I look at those statistics. He added that I shouldn’t judge, because I too have sinned.
Nicky, 22, hairstylist:
“I don’t know why I did it. I love you and I know you’re hurting and I apologise, and I actually wish I could take it back because it’s not worth losing you, but something came over me.”
Camille 24, university student:
“It wasn’t me.” Can you imagine that this man turned Shaggy on me — thinking I was an idiot, trying to spin all kinds of yarns, even though I had more than enough proof that he was cheating?
