Lamest break-up excuses
WHEN a person really wants to end a relationship there is nothing that can keep them in it, no matter how the other party feels. And even if you manage to convince them to stay, most times it’s temporary as their desire to cut loose will rise again.
And when they make up their minds that this is it, sometimes their mishandling can cause things to go terribly wrong. The whole question of parting amicably can be ruined by a bunch of lame excuses for their actions. Whether they don’t want to hurt your feelings, don’t have a legitimate excuse for leaving, or are downright clueless, these final encounters can be cringeworthy, as the people below share.

She said she had to break up with me because I was too much of a gentleman. Honestly! Because I opened doors for her and was generally chivalrous, she saw that as a minus. She cautioned me to change my nerdy ways if I ever wanted a chance with a girl who would not take me for granted!
Kimberley, back-up singer:
My ex told me that I deserved better, because he was being unfair to me. I was totally puzzled, because he was the dearest person. He couldn’t tell me in what way he was being ‘unfair’.
Michael, entrepreneur:
My ex-girlfriend used the ‘It’s not you, it’s me’ excuse. Nothing was wrong with her. I thought she was the ideal girlfriend. She’s the girl you’re not afraid to introduce to your dad who is a pastor. She was that decent and proper.

Someone I dated a while ago broke up with me because he said he didn’t want to hurt me. Well, he did hurt me when he ended the relationship.

After five years my ex had the nerve to tell me that he needed some space. Space to do what? We shared five years together — at least he could have had the decency to tell me the truth.

The girl just cut off all communication with me. She told her friend to tell me that we were over. I tried to find out why she did it. I still don’t know why.

“I’m not ready for something serious right now.” That was his excuse after we had been seeing each other for seven years. We were already serious, so I have no idea why he would say something so foolish.
