Ladies’ expo a success
On March 17, Promotional Links Industries staged their annual Ladies’ Expo for the third time inside the Wolmer’s Boys auditorium in St Andrew. The event was held in an effort to commemorate International Women’s Month, under the theme ‘For Women by Women’.
The expo featured over 80 local exhibitors including large corporate entities and small businesses across Jamaica. Over 1,000 patrons attended, and they were not only entertained and empowered, but also educated on issues such as women’s rights, financial planning, reproductive health, stress management and mental wellness.
Health was an important feature of the expo, with free HIV testing being offered by the Jamaica Family Planning Association, and free eye tests offered by Courts Optical. The standout segment, however, was the exciting Girl Chat segment which featured media personality Nikki Z, lawyer and blogger Lecia Gaye Taylor, author and sexologist Shelly Ann Weeks, media personality Debbie Bissoon, and artiste and comedian Bella Blair. The women discussed various controversial issues including women’s portrayal in the media, rights for transgendered persons, the #metoo movement, and dating and relationships.
