Too soon to wed?

Too soon to wed?

By Miss Kes

Marriage is a union bounded by God, and it should be treasured and respected in its full effect. Some people are of the conviction that marrying too soon will signal disaster, as it is important to take a few years to get to know someone. Others believe that once there is love and mutual respect, then time is nothing but a four-letter word.

How soon is too soon for marriage?

Phillippa:

I was attacked by both family and friends when I decided to marry my now husband. I was under serious attack because everyone thought it was too soon. I was with him for eight months when he asked me for my hand in marriage. I accepted because I was in love and it felt real. We have been married for almost 10 years now. I want to say, your heart should know what it feels. Allow no one to dictate your life especially when it comes to matters of love.

MJ:

People always have something to say once someone decides to get married. It’s really sad. I had a similar experience when I decided to get married. It was like everyone had something negative to say and almost everyone told me I was too young and I needed to live out my youth. I was a bit upset because I think if someone meets the love of their life, why speak negatively on it?

Bridget:

I think it can destroy your life if you marry too soon because marriage is not what you see on television. It is something very serious and should be taken as such. It is more than a ring and a white dress. It is a lifelong commitment to God so if you jump in it too soon, you will get burnt.

Maya:

I think if you’re sure, go ahead and get married. Do not let anyone stand in the way of you being happy. But if you are unsure, leave it alone because marriage is a serious thing. I do not play with marriage.

Tanesha:

Yes, marriage too soon can be a category 5 hurricane. I cannot approve of someone getting married after being with someone for a year. There is no way you can know someone fully, but one year is cutting it real close to a divorce.
