5 habits of a healthy relationship
There is no such thing as the perfect relationship, but there are habits couples can incorporate into their daily lives to make the relationship strong, romantic and beneficial to both.
Below are some habits that will assist in creating and maintaining a healthy relationship.
Good communication
Communication is imperative to all relationships but what makes it twice as important in intimate relationships is that it’s the medium through which needs, wants and problems will be aired. Practise speaking to your partner as that will solve half the problems.
Respect
Understand that you do not own a person; it is indeed an honor to be with someone and that person should be respected at all times. It is therefore your job to respect your partner for who he or she is, their personal space and time, and yes, their mobile phones.
Autonomy
Giving your partner time off to be with their friends or family or even to be alone is critical. Everyone needs a breath of fresh air just to unwind from life itself. Do not take it personally if your partner wants to go out without you – it doesn’t mean he or she is being unfaithful. They simply need a life away from their relationship with you.
Quality time
This is important. It is suggested that you have a day of the week dedicated to spending time away from all distractions. You could do a movie night or simply go for a walk, but do something both you and your partner will enjoy. It is a sure way of keeping the bond tight.
Gifts of appreciation
Practice giving gifts to your partner for no apparent reason. Do not wait on special occasions or days to express love or to make your partner feel special. Try to do this as often as you possibly can as this will lighten the atmosphere between you and your lover and strengthen the relationship.
