He said I took too long to get ready – The worst excuses for cancelling a date
DATING is an important part of any blossoming relationship. It allows new couples to get to know each other better, and older couples to keep the fire in their love burning. Every once in a while though, the plans get thwarted or we get stood up. Sometimes the reasons are quite understandable, but other times, not so much.
Read on to see some of the worst excuses a few of our readers have ever got from someone for cancelling on them.
JR, counsellor:
“I got out of work late and my car broke down, so I had to stop at a mechanic”. Little did he know that I already called his job and they said he had been off since 12. I asked him what mechanic shop, and I googled their opening hours and saw that they were already closed at the time that he said he was there.
KH, student:
“On my way over to you, I made a stop to link the body work guy and I just lost track of the time.”
CG, accountant:
We were supposed to watch a movie on the Friday. He called me at 2:00 am on Saturday saying he fell asleep and just woke up, but his Instagram story showed that he was at a Look Out point earlier that night. I guess he had a sleepwalking problem.
SP, front desk clerk:
He didn’t even offer a comforting excuse. He just said point blank, “I have more important plans.”
LM, entrepreneur:
He said I took too long to get ready, even though I only took half an hour and it was not a case where we had made reservations for a specific time. He just grumbled, “Yuh tek too long fi get ready, me cyaan bodda go noweh wid yuh.”
NB, customer service agent:
The person was to come by my house, which is ten minutes away from theirs, and told me they couldn’t come because they had no money, even though I could have paid the taxi fare when they got here.
SN, secretary:
I was reconnecting with an ex of mine, and we were to go out. The day of the date I didn’t hear from him and he didn’t message me until days later. His excuse was, “I felt nervous ’cause yuh kinda intimidating.”
AB, teacher:
We had agreed to meet somewhere, and he didn’t show up. I tried calling and messaging but no response. He called me way after the time had passed, and said, “I thought it was tomorrow.”
SF, entrepreneur:
“My grandma left with the house key and I’m locked inside.”
NJ, student:
We live on campus. When it was time for us to go out, she said that the laundromat was closed with all of her clothes, so she didn’t have anything to wear.
