‘The other woman called me late one night’ – The worst ways people found out they were being cheated on
IT always hurts to find out that you are being cheated on, but it can hurt even more depending on how you find out about it. For the people who share their experiences below, the way they found out that their partners were unfaithful added salt to their wounds.
SW, customer care rep:
We were walking together with our baby in town, buying some groceries, when a woman started staring at us, then started following us. She said, “A dis yuh really do me?” And he pretended not to hear. She started shouting at him and causing a scene, and he was telling her to calm down, which got her more heated. I got into a taxi with my baby. It turned out he was with her for years and she found out about me. But there I was thinking I had a whole man for myself.
JD, assistant:
This account just started posting nasty things on my pictures online. Every time I blocked the account, a next one popped up. It finally got to me and I messaged the person, very upset. It was a girl who said she was his wife, and I should leave her man alone. I asked him about it and he said I should ignore her, but things weren’t adding up — like how we never went to his house, and I couldn’t get him on the phone at certain times, so I left.
SD, mechanic:
We were dating from high school and we both got accepted to university but I decided to work first while she went on student loan and started right after sixth form. Things got kind of rocky because she soon started saying she was too tired to talk or too busy with school. I decided not to push it. After not talking to me for about a week, I saw her post a picture on Facebook with a guy dancing on her at a party with the caption, ‘My happiness’.
DW, student:
We were watching a movie one time and his friend was calling to see if he was busy. He told him that he was chilling with ‘wifey’. Next thing I knew the friend wanted to say hi to me. I felt so good until the friend called me by some other girl’s name. I had to say no, that’s not my name. He said his mouth slipped but I knew it wasn’t a mistake because that number was always texting my boyfriend. Eventually he confessed and I left.
FM, blogger:
I was with this girl who talked in her sleep. I thought it was cute because the things she said never made much sense, so I would record her and play it back when she woke up and we’d joke about it. One night I started touching her in her sleep and saying nice things to her and I thought I heard her say a name but I wasn’t sure. Going off a hunch, the next day I asked her which guy she was dreaming about the night before. She confessed that she had a one night stand with a guy she met in KFC, and it was bothering her.
CG, hairdresser:
The other woman called me late one night. She suspected I knew about her, and I kinda had an idea, but I wasn’t dying to confirm it or anything. She said we needed to talk. She told me all about what they had, and I told her all about what we had. After the initial shock and rudeness, we found some common ground and even had a few laughs. It turned out he was with her for a while and it was a constant thing with him. We both left him, and we are now good friends.
SM, nurse:
He bought me a phone and had it unlocked. But before he unlocked it, he must’ve signed into his Facebook account and forgot to sign out. I saw messages from someone who he was obviously in an intimate relationship with. I was hurt, and I left. I kept the phone though. A gift is a gift.
