Leiane Evans: Shaping Jamaica’s beauty industry

MANY may know the name Blow by Blow, but not everyone knows the vision behind this carefully styled brand.

After successfully completing her licensed training in cosmetology in 2007, owner Leiane Evans felt encouraged to follow her dream of establishing her very own beauty boutique. She then opened her first salon in Tampa, Florida, keen on providing her customers with a wide variety of superior quality services. So when she decided to move back home to Jamaica, this goal of hers had not wavered.

With The Beauty Boutique at Blow by Blow in Kingston, Evans has built an impressive reputation for not only the stellar service she offers, but her dedication to the continued growth and improvement of her business. She is always eager to travel twice a year to popular hair conventions and participate in training sessions to take advantage of current beauty trends to best satisfy her customers’ needs. Not only is she attentive to her clientèle, Evans is always sure to host monthly training sessions with her staff to aid in their individual professional growth.

“Here at Blow by Blow we strongly believe in teamwork, and this team is not only a reflection of the Blow by Blow brand, but they are a reflection of me, so it’s very important that we are all well trained and always looking to upskill. I can truly say we all work well to assist each other in making each customer’s experience most comfortable and memorable,” she told All Woman.

With great pride, she added, “Blow by Blow has been around for over eight years now, and I couldn’t be more proud of all we’ve accomplished thus far. Since our introduction to the beauty industry, we pride ourselves on the professionalism that we offer, our genuine care and consideration for all our clients, and the relationships that we have formed over the years.”

Being a full-service beauty salon, Blow by Blow is widely applauded for not just their beautifully styled hair cuts and colours, but is also acknowledged for a variety of services: steam treatments; intense moisture treatments; scalp care; Botox and Keratin treatments; and nail-care services. The boutique is also equipped with a wide array of internationally acclaimed professional products and innovative technology from world-class brands.

“We recently introduced a retail area to give clients the opportunity to purchase the products we use to give them that beautiful finished look. The area is stocked with items for all your beauty needs. We are very passionate about carrying local brands, so you will see a blend of local artisan products along with international salon-grade products on our shelves,” explained Evans.

“We want you to feel like ‘this is my place’ when you walk in, and all your outside troubles can melt away. That’s the reason we don’t have TVs in the salon or play the radio because we want the customer to feel like they are in a secret hideaway with our relaxing and rejuvenating service.”

Blow by Blow is one of the few salons in Jamaica that recently opened its doors to botox hair treatment, a new service on the market for shiny, voluminous and healthy hair. The hair Botox is the perfect solution for long-lasting and healthy silk presses and blowouts. Because it replaces harmful straightening chemicals, your silk presses can say goodbye to frizz and hello to strong and healthy hair. The results of hair Botox can last as long as three to four months with proper maintenance, making the quick fix for hair health and strength a new crowd favourite.

Nail experts Nickiesha Tyrell and Marjorie Smalling are completing this client’s makeover with a fresh mani-pedi.
