Ranking Mr and Ms Right

ALAISHA THOMAS

MEN don’t marry the women they love, they marry the person in front of them at the time they’re ready to get married. So goes the saying that could probably be easily applied to women too. In other words, the one we’re with now may not be the one we love, the one who sparked that fire, or the one who scores highest on the list of those we’ve been with.

So, if you were to rank your partners, where would your current mate fall? Would they even make the list?

Angell, 34:

I love my husband — we’re soul tied and I absolutely love being with him. But I married him because I was pregnant with my second child, and didn’t want to be a single mother of two. My great love was my second boyfriend who I met at 19, who made me fall in love with alternative music and with whom I had the most fascinating conversations. No one could come close to him. So if I was to rank, my husband would probably be number four — after boyfriend number two, the third one who died, and my first child’s father who’s a deadbeat, but that love was real.

Keith, 38:

My wife would probably be number three. She’s a royal woman and all that, but it’s like she can’t separate from the church marm persona. I don’t want back my exes or anything like that, but bwoy, those were the days!

Shelly, 37:

My current bae would probably be number one. We have an emotional connection that I didn’t know was possible to have with a guy. It’s not even about intimacy only; everything is just wonderful.

Tony, 40:

My wife was my first so I don’t have any comparisons. She’s a wonderful woman, wife and mother. No one can really compare to her.

Cherie, 39:

College boyfriend. Best love of my life. It was the kind of relationship that you only see on TV, and it prepared me for what to demand from men. After that experience, no way was I going to accept anything mediocre. My husband now is a good man, and he does what I demand, and he would be perfect except that he doesn’t really have the spontaneity that college bae had.

Leigh, 26:

This guy from Puerto Rico when I was working abroad. My God, you know what they say about Spanish men. He was sexy as hell, had great stamina, worshipped my body, and made me feel so sexy. I craved him constantly. He’s number one. My current could never!
