Jamaica Labour Party lauds Jimmy Cliff
The governing Jamaica Labour Party says it deeply regrets the passing of reggae ambassador, iconic musician, and celebrated actor, Jimmy Cliff.
Chairman of the Jamaica Labour Party’s Communication Taskforce, Senator Abka Fitz-Henley reflected on Cliff’s contribution to music.
“Jimmy Cliff is without question a legend. His contribution to global consciousness via his music is of vast significance and tremendous impact. We regret the passing of an outstanding Jamaican who was a trailblazer in creating positive music which inspired current and past generations. I have no doubt that Jimmy’s incredible body of work will continue to resonate with generations to come.”
Senator Fitz-Henley added that It is good that while he was alive, Jimmy Cliff was celebrated by various governments of Jamaica in several ways, including with the Order of Merit, the renaming of a road in St. James in his honour, and recognition at the Jamaica 55 commemoration activities.
“We in the Jamaica Labour Party join all of Jamaica, which is no doubt deeply saddened at Jimmy’s passing, and extend our profound condolences to his family. We hail the man, Jimmy Cliff, and his positively consequential legacy,” he said.
Jimmy Cliff’s given name at birth was James Chambers. He died on Monday, November 24, 2025.
