OECS appoints new strategic advisor for Africa-Caribbean cooperation

CASTRIES, St Lucia (CMC) — The St Lucia-based Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) Commission Tuesday announced the appointment of Aisha Maina as OECS strategic advisor for Africa-Caribbean cooperation

It said that the appointment, effective July 1, 2026, “marks a pivotal moment in advancing transatlantic South-South collaboration” and that Maina’s role will serve as a vital catalyst in forging historic bridges between the Eastern Caribbean and the African continent.

The OECS Commission said that Maine, who is the chief executive officer of the Nigeria-based Aquarian Consult Limited, brings to the commission an extraordinary record of visionary leadership.

It said that she has led high-impact initiatives spanning governance, trade, energy, agribusiness, social impact, and the creative economy.

“Her strategic expertise and deep network across public and private sectors in Africa will be instrumental in elevating trade, investment and cultural linkages to unprecedented level,” the commission said, adding that in her advisory mandate, Maina will work directly with the Office of the Director General to guide policy frameworks and operational strategies that unlock tangible, mutual economic benefits.

“We are thrilled to welcome Ms Aisha Maina to the OECS team. Her proven track record, leadership at Aquarian Consult, and expansive vision for South-South collaboration make her uniquely equipped to lead our strategic engagement with Africa,” said OECS Director General, Dr Didacus Jules.

“This appointment reflects our unwavering commitment to building a more resilient, globally connected and economically prosperous OECS community,” Dr Jules added.

Maina said it is a “deep privilege” to serve the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States in this capacity and that the historical, cultural and economic synergy between Africa and the Caribbean represents an immense frontier of opportunity.

“I look forward to working closely with Director General Dr Didacus Jules and the OECS Commission to translate our shared vision into transformative trade, sustainable growth and lasting partnerships for both our regions, strengthening the transatlantic bridge,” Maina said.
