Exciting sets from DJ Smoke, Scientist and DJ Vaughn, ZJ Liquid, and singer Wayne Wonder kept patrons on a musical high at last Saturday’s Showtime Edition of the popular retro party series Footloose.

Held at Mas Camp, Stadium North, the event promoters delivered the goods.

Singer Wayne Wonder, who reeled out a long list of hit songs, including No Letting Go, Bonafide Love, Loving Excess, Saddest Day of My Life, Searching, Joyride, and Anything Goes, could do no wrong as patrons sang along word for word like a choir.

He was joined onstage by fellow Madhouse Records affiliate Cham, who upped the ante with some of his well-known hits.

“It’s always a good vibe performing at retro events such as this. I just had fun with it and hold a nice vibe,” Wayne Wonder disclosed in an interview with the Jamaica Observer post-performance.

He continued: “I’ve always known about this party, and I came here for the Welcome to Jamrock rehearsals so this event just fell into place.”

Cham was just as complimentary about in his thoughts about the event.

“The teacher himself Wayne Wonder is here so we had to come out and represent for the Madhouse family. It was a really nice vibe,” he said.

ZJ Liquid, who delivered an electrifying set — comprised of ballads, dance treats and lover’s rock — held patrons spellbound as he worked like a mechanic to keep the vibes flowing.

The Bill Medley/Jennifer Warnes hit I’ve Had the Time of My Life, Wake My Up (Before You Go Go) by Wham, Jive Bunny’s Come on Everybody, Buju Banton’s Not an Easy Road, Freddie McGregor’s Push Come to Shove, and Joseph Stepper’s 1992 hit Wife, assisted ZJ Liquid on his voyage.

“The vibe is always great at Footloose. We just mix it up and represent by trying supp’n different every time,” said ZJ Liquid.

DJ Smoke, who was making his debut on Footloose, said he was surprised at the turnout.

“Is the first time me a play at Footloose and the party nice. At this time of the night I am surprised at the turnout. But the vibes turn up,” said DJ Smoke.

His set was riddled with remixes and disco treats, among them Whitney Houston’s How Will I Know, Madonna’s Like a Virgin, Freddie McGregor’s Don’t Hurt My Feelings, and Ini Kamoze’s 1990 #1 hit Stepping it Hot This Year.

Mesmerize by Ashanti and Ja Rule, R Kelly’s Fiesta, Nardo Ranks’ Dem a Bleach, Pliers’ Bam Bam, Red Dragon’s Duck, Flourgon’s Bounce, Louie Culture’s Ganga Lee, and Mr Vegas’s Yuh Sure hit patrons like musical missiles.

“We know the blueprint and the template for an event like Footloose. I started out on this stage almost 20 years ago and its always a joy representing,” said MC Scientist.

Spokesperson for Broadway Productions, promoters of Footloose, Francis Chin-Yee was pleased with the turnout and the execution of the event.

“The turnout is phenomenal. We give thanks to the patrons who came out tonight. If you missed it, you will be sorry. This has been a great vibe and the DJs delivered well,” said Chin-Yee.
